Family history sites are tame when compared with most sites, but then again most family history sites are either deadly boring or are filled with some pretty suspect family history work. We have tried hard to make sure our lines and links are as solid and as researched as we can. We also hope the format is interesting and helpful. I don't think there's another site dedicated to a single family set of names (verses a Cyndi's List type of site) that looks quite like ours. Hopefully it's helpful and we can both gain from it. With our new design and approach to displaying our work, hopefully it will also be easier to access and understand.

Our view at Mildly Amused.com is that the world is a serious enough place without folks going to extra lengths to make it an even more polarized and dangerous. We will attempt on our site to stick to a topic and a viewpoint that's relaxed, useful, and definitely not political. We do family history, otherwise known as Genealogy, and that's pretty much what this section of our site is all about.

We try pretty hard to stick with our basic family lines. Those primary lines are Anderson, Schoepke, Gille, Gesell, Manning, Martin, Looney, Buchanan, Wheeler, Gist, Boyce, Marshall and a handful of others. We have organized the names in several ways to aid you in your search. First and most familiar, is a static list of surnames. Most sites dump thousands of names in a static list and that's pretty much what you get.  Here we have the static list just because it is familiar to most people, but not necessarily because it is flexible or useful.  We have added a dynamic ancestor search capability that's pretty exciting for a website.  Under the Ancestor Search menu at the top of the page you can take the option to search our database dynamically for an ancestor and see all the charts and relationship diagrams you would normally find on your home genealogy program.  This lets you see your ancestor "in context" within the family tree.  This helps you figure out whether the Tom Jones in our database really is indeed the Tom Jones you are searching for when you can see how he/she fits in to the rest of the lineage.  This dynamic ancestor search function required a complete re-write of our web site so I hope you find it useful.

Also to speed you along your way, you should find menus along the left side of your screen as well as the dynamic menus at the top of the page.  Each of these sets of menus is keyed to family history topics you may be interested in. Whether it's looking at why you should do family history in the first place or information on a specific surname (like instant access to Schoepke, Anderson, Gille, Gesell, Buchanan, Wheeler, Gist, Boyce names) by just touching a menu button we have tried to make things easy.  The fly-out menus on the top of the website should cut down on clutter and help you on your way to your ancestors.

At Mildly Amused.com we aren’t genealogy or family history experts. We are just a family that's interested in our history and our place in the world. If you examine our skills, you'll find we aren't experts or card carrying certified genealogists. We're just folks in the neighborhood who enjoy doing some midnight genealogy. Looking at the data on our website, you may find things you disagree with, family relationships that don't match your own pedigree charts.. You may find research that's got a kink in it, maybe a pedigree chart that has fewer names or more names than you have.. We won’t always be correct. We won’t always be in agreement. But, we won’t be trying to sell you genealogy services, family history guides, or other items you can get for free on sites like www.familysearch.org. If you see something we should discuss relating to ancestors, pedigree charts, dates / names or anything that you'd like to know, feel free to contact us. Folks send us email every week and we answer 100% of the inquiries we receive. It's why we have the website to begin with!
