AN OVERVIEW OF MILDLY AMUSED.COM Family history sites are
tame when compared with most sites, but then again most family history
sites are either deadly boring or are filled with some pretty suspect
family history work. We have tried hard to make sure our lines and links
are as solid and as researched as we can. We also hope the format is interesting
and helpful. I don't think there's another site dedicated to a single
family set of names (verses a Cyndi's List type of site) that looks quite
like ours. Hopefully it's helpful and we can both gain from it.
Philip Mehrer and Martha Schoepke in the early 1900's Our view at Mildly Amused.com is that
the world is a serious enough place without folks going to extra lengths
to make it an even more polarized and dangerous.. We will attempt on our
site to stick to a topic and a viewpoint that's relaxed, useful, and definitley
not political. We do family history, otherwise known as Genealogy, and
that's pretty much what this site is all about. We've tried different
things over the years but it's family history that keeps us alive and
interested here so we are going to slim down our website and focus solely
on one topic..

At Mildly Amused.com we aren’t
genealogy or family history experts. We are just a family that's interested
in our history and our place in the world. If you examine our skills,
you'll find we aren't experts or card carrying certified genealogists.
We're just folks in the neighborhood who enjoy doing some midnight genealogy.
Looking at the data on our website, you may find things you disagree with,
family relationships that don't match your own pedigree charts.. You may
find research that's got a kink in it, maybe a pedigree chart that has
fewer names or more names than you have.. We won’t always be correct.
We won’t always be in agreement. But, we won’t be trying to sell you genealogy
services, family history guides, or other items you can get for free on
sites like www.familysearch.org. If you see something we should discuss
relating to ancestors, pedigree charts, dates / names or anyting that
you'd like to know, feel free to contact us. Folks send us email every
week and we answer 100% of the inquiries we receive. It's why we have
the website to begin with! We want to share what we've found, and encourage
you to share what you have too.

Family history, or genealogy, is alsothe favorite topic amongst us at Mildly Amused.com so most of our site is dedicated to that topic. Families and the ties that bind us together are probably one of our greatest assets and anything we can do to strengthen them deserves our efforts. Please, if you have any interests in family history, feel free to browse and make comments and contact us. If all you do is drop us a note and say "I saw your site and enjoyed it", that makes it all worthwhile.

We at Mildly Amused.com are constantly updating our website to make it easier to use, and more useful for family history. We've just added a new section that perhaps you could give us a hand with. The new section is called WE NEED HELP WITH AN ANCESTOR. WE NEED HELP WITH AN ANCESTOR. If you click the link it will take you to a page of ancestors we need some help with. If you have some information, anything really, we would love hearing from you. In most cases we need some sort of documents, or records to prove a link, or to find another set of folks. We need help with an ancestor is a theme you can perhaps relate to if you're working on your own lines. Maybe that's why you're here: you need help with an ancestor. I hope we can provide a little mutual assistance. Here's an example of what we are doing with the WE NEED HELP WITH AN ANCESTOR section: Samuel Bartholomeus SCHOEPKE was born about 1835 in Posen, Poland, Germany. He married Anna Caroline SCHOEPKE about 1859. This is a record, Samuel Bartholomeus Schoepke, that we have some serious problems with. First off, Samuel's middle name, Bartholomeus may not be his correct middle name. Second, we have absolutely no information about his birth place, exact birth date, death date or anything that definitively pins him down. We know he existed because August Schoepke, his son, existed. August Schoepke names Samuel Schoepke as his father on his death certificate so he have it on pretty good authority the first name is correct. We also have it on pretty good authority he did not leave Poland/Germany/Russia for Canada or the United States like August Schoepke and others did in the late 1880's. This ancestor is the chief problem with definitively extending or completing our Schoepke line in the old world. If Samuel's information is incorrect, then all the information of an ealier date may also be incorrect. Click on the WE NEED HELP WITH AN ANCESTOR link to go to the section where we have all our current research needs listed. Thanks!
